God's Word

John 17:25-26

“Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

God's Word Today

Jesus is praying for all people who believe in Him. Do you believe in Jesus? If so, this prayer is for you also. He is telling God, His Father, that God’s love which is in Him is also in you. You are a child of God. You are filled with God’s love. That is a wonderful blessing. The Holy Spirit, who came down from Heaven on Pentecost Sunday will be the one who helps you know about God’s love.

To Do Today

Today, write down these words. God loves me. Jesus loves me. The Holy Spirit loves me. Say them aloud several times today. Does saying these words make you smile?

God's Word

Psalm 103:20

Bless the Lord, all you angels, mighty in strength and attentive, obedient to every command.

God's Word Today

Jesus asked the disciples to teach the people about God’s love. Paul asked the people to work to help the weak and poor. God also has angels working to help God’s chosen people. Because you love Jesus, you are one of God’s chosen people. You are a child of God. He has assigned angels to help you. Sometimes we call them Guardian Angels.

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of what you think your guardian angel looks like. Tell your angel thank you. Pray for your angel and thank God

God's Word

Acts 28:30b-31

Paul received all who came to him, and with complete assurance and without hindrance he proclaimed the Kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

God's Word Today

Have you seen from this week’s lessons how much God wants everyone to know about His Son, Jesus? Paul spent his whole life teaching the gospel. He traveled all over the world to tell people about Jesus. Jesus wants you to share your understanding of God to everyone you see. Think of all the ways you can personally tell or show people information about Jesus. Maybe you can share a video or music CD. Maybe you can offer a book that tells about Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, tell someone about Jesus.

Pentecost Sunday

God's Word

Acts 2:1-4b

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came t rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.

God's Word Today

Pentecost which means fifty, occurred fifty days after Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus had returned to heaven and He promised He would send the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost Sunday, the people were worshipping God and the Holy Spirit came down on all of them. Because it was for so many people, the Spirit came with noise and bright light. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it probably won’t be with noise and bright lights. The Holy Spirit can and usually does come quietly with a sense of peace. That is why many churches use the dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t matter if you see or hear anything, all you have to do is KNOW that He is with you.

To Do Today

Today, take a photo of yourself and put a picture of a dove on your shoulder. Know that the Holy Spirit is with you

God's Word

Mark 12:1

Jesus began to speak to the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders in parables.

God's Word Today

A parable is a story that is told to teach you something. Jesus talked to the people many times by telling them a story. He told them stories that helped them understand who He was and who God is.

To Do Today

Today, find parables in the Bible. Make up a parable and tell it to your family.

God's Word

Mark 12:17

Jesus said to them,

"Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."

God's Word Today

Some people wanted to test Jesus so they gave Him a coin with a picture of Caesar on it. They wanted Him to say not to pay taxes because it would honor Cesaer. But Jesus knew they were trying to trick Him and He was very wise. He said to pay Cesaer the taxes. And honor God with your praise and love. This is what Jesus wants us to do today. When we buy things, we pay taxes. This helps our community. When we go to church, we honor God.

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family about paying taxes. Ask them why we pay taxes. List what tax money does for us.

Mark 12:25

Jesus said,

"When they rise from the dead, they are like the angels in heaven."

God's Word Today

Jesus rose from the dead and His body is like an angels. He says when we rise from the dead, our body will be like an angel also. What do you think that will be like?

God's Word

Mark 12:31a

"The second greatest commandment is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

God's Word Today

Jesus wants you to know it is very important to love your neighbor. When He says to love your neighbor, he means you should love everyone. You should love your friends, people you don't know and even love your enemies.

To Do Today

Today, pray for God to help you love your neighbors.

God's Word

Mark 12:35a

Jesus was teaching in the temple area.

God's Word Today

It was important for Jesus to go to the temple. He went there to read God's word. He went there to pray. He went there to teach others about God. Do you go to church? Do you study God's word when you are in church? Do you pray when you are in church? Do you learn about Jesus when you are in church? This makes Jesus very happy.

To Do Today

Today, Make a list of all the things you learned about Jesus this week. Thank Him.

God's Word

Mark 12:41-44

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them,

"Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."

God's Word Today

In these verses, Jesus is telling His disciples that it doesn't matter how much money you give to the church. What matters is how much it means to you. If it is just extra money, it doesn't mean as much. But if it is money that is very important to you, and you give it away, then you have given more than the rich people. You have given from your heart. Do you give money to the church? Do you give part of your allowance?

To Do Today

Today, start setting aside money to give to the church or to the poor. Ask your parents the best way for you to do this.

God's Word

John 3:16

God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so hat everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.

God's Word Today

Today is Father's Day in the United States. It is a day to celebrate how much your fathers does for you. It is a day to thank him for all that he does for the family. We also celebrate our Father in heaven. He loved His son, yet He sacrificed His son for you. He sent the Holy Spirit to help you. Do you love both of your fathers?

Matthew 5:9

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

God's Word Today

Jesus is teaching His disciples. He tells them that those who are peacemakers will be called children of God. Do you know some examples of peacemakers? They are people who help make peace. Police officers, judges, soldiers often work hard to make peace. Do you try and keep peace within your family? Among your friends?

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the peacemakers you know. Be sure and thank them for doing their job.

Matthew 5:14a and 16

"You are the light of the world. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."

God's Word

Matthew 5:19

"Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

God's Word Today

Jesus is referring to the ten commandments written in the Old Testament. He wants you to follow the ten commandments. If you obey the commandments, you will be rewarded in heaven. You will not receive that reward if you do not follow the commandments.

To Do Today

Today, ask someone to help you look up the ten commandments written in the Old Testament. They can be found in Exodus 20.

God's Word

Matthew 5:21-22a

"You have heard that is was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment."

God's Word Today

We know that it is bad to kill someone. But Jesus is telling us it is just as bad to be angry with someone. Both separate you from God.

To Do Today

Today, think about someone you have been angry with. Tell them you are sorry.

God's Word

Matthew 5:30

"And if your right hand causes you to sin, but it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell."

God's Word Today

Jesus is trying to tell you how important it is not to sin. He wants you with Him in heaven. He died so that your sins would be forgiven. We all sin. Jesus wants you to ask Him for forgiveness. That makes Him very happy.

To Do Today

Today, think of anything you did this week that might be a sin. Ask Jesus for forgiveness.

God's Word

Matthew 5:34

"But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God's throne."

God's Word Today

This week Jesus has been talking about doing good things or doing bad things. Swearing is a bad thing. He does not want you to swear. These things are bad because they separate you from God. Jesus wants you to be with Him always. The only way you can be with Jesus always is to be filled with love.

To Do Today

Today, think of all the good things you did this week. Think of all the times you were loving. Jesus is smiling.

God's Word

John 6:51

Jesus said to the Jewish crowds:

"I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

God's Word Today

Do you take communion in church? When you drink the blood of Christ, it washes you clean. When you eat the bread, it is the body of Christ and makes you strong. And if you take communion and eat the bread, you will live forever in heaven with Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, when you take communion think about Jesus.

God's Word

Matthew 5:38-39

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth'. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well."

God's Word Today

This is one of the hardest things that Jesus asks you to do. When someone hurts you, you want to hurt them back. But He tells you not to hurt them, but to turn your other cheek. Jesus wants you to pray for those who hurt you.

To Do Today

Today, think of someone who has hurt you. Pray for that person.

God's Word

Matthew 5:44

"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father."

God's Word Today

As a Christian, you want to be like Jesus. Jesus was beaten and crucified, but he prayed for those who hurt Him. He loved them. You must try and do the same no matter how hard it is to do so.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the people you do not like. Pray for them. Ask God to help you love them.

Matthew 6:6

"But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you."

God's Word Today

Some peope pray in public. This is okay, but sometimes they do it to show off. God loves any kind of prayers, but the ones He loves the most are those times when we sit alone and pray in secret. He loves to talk to you. He loves to hear your prayers.

To Do Today

Today, find a place where you can pray in secret. Go there and talk to God.

"If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."

God's Word Today

Jesus is telling you how important it is to forgive others. If you don't forgive, you have anger and hatred in your heart and then you can't be close to God, the Father. If you forgive, then you have love in your heart and you can be close to God, the Father.

To Do Today

Today, make a prayer box. Put thenames of all the people who have sinned against you. Each night, take out a name and pray for that person.

God's Word Today

Zechariah and Elizabeth prayed for a son. The angel told them they would have a son and his name would be John. Do you know that John is Jesus' cousin? That is why he is so special to the Lord. Do you have cousins? Are they special to you?

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, or secret that will not be known."

God's Word Today

Jesus is telling you not to ever be afraid. He is watching over you. He knows everything. No one can do things in secret without Him knowing. If someone does something bad to you, Jesus knows and it will always be known at the right time. Have faith in His protection.

To Do Today

Today, think of times when you were afraid. What happened? Did those times turn out okay? Thank Jesus.

God's Word

Matthew 7:1-2

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you."

God's Word Today

Jesus is telling you not to judge others. Don't be critical. Don't blame others. Because if you do, you will be judged. You will be criticized. You will be blamed. Because how you judge others, that is how God is going to judge you. It would be better to forgive and love others. That is what you want God to do to you.

To Do Today

Today, when you think of your family and friends, look for their good points. Think of them with love in your heart.

God's Word Today

Jesus wants you to treat people the way you want to be treated. Do you like people to be nice to you? Then you need to be nice to people. If someone is not treating you nice, the answer is to treat that person with respect anyway. Because that is the way you want to be treated.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the ways you like people to treat you.

God's Word

Matthew 7:16a

"By their fruits you will know them."

God's Word Today

This sounds funny. Jesus does not mean the kind of fruit you eat. He is referring to the fruits of the Spirit. If a person shows kindness, love, joy, peace, forgiveness, self control, gentleness, patience, and goodness then that person is one you want to know. If a person is angry, mean, a bully, a liar, cruel, etc. then he is showing evil fruits. You want to stay away from that kind of person.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the people you know who have fruits of the Spirit. Thank God for them.

God's Word

Matthew 8:1-3

When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. And then a leper approached, did him homage and said, "Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean." He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,

"I will do it. Be made clean."

His leprosy was cleansed immediately.

God's Word Today

Jesus healed the leper when he asked. Did you notice what the leper did before he asked? He paid homage. Do you know what that means? That means he praised Jesus, he worshiped Jesus, he told Jesus he loved him and believed in him. Do you pay Jesus homage before you ask Him for things?

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family about ways to pay homage to Jesus.
