God's Word

John 6:28-29

So the crowd said to him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them,

“This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”

God's Word Today

Many people think that doing what God wants is very complicated. God’s will is very simple. All He wants is for you to believe in His Son, Jesus and for you to love Him. If you love God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit with all your heart, you can’t help but do God’s will.

To Do Today

Today, write Jesus a letter and tell Him how much you love Him.

God's Word

John 6:35

Jesus said to them,

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”

God's Word Today

When Jesus says His followers will never hunger or thirst, He means they will never be hungry for spiritual food or drink. When you talk to Jesus, He always feeds your spirit. You may not see Him or hear Him, but your spirit does. Because you cannot see Jesus talking to your spirit, you eat bread at communion and drink wine. This food and drink becomes the body and blood of Christ and feeds your spirit. The bread and wine you can see and taste so it helps you to believe that Jesus really is feeding your spirit even though you cannot see or taste it.

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of the communion service in your church.

God's Word

Acts 8:4

Now those who had been scattered went about preaching the word.

God's Word Today

Many of Jesus’ followers were killed or attacked for preaching the word. Others ran to different towns. This sounds sad, but it is really what Jesus wanted. He wanted his word spread throughout the world. If His followers had not been scared, they would have stayed home and the gospel would not have spread all over the world. Today, missionaries and Christians all over the world, risk their lives to preach the word. Do you know anyone who has done this?

To Do Today

Today, attach a note to a balloon that says, “Jesus loves you.” Release the balloon into the sky. Say a prayer that whoever finds it will believe in Jesus

God's Word

John 6:45

“It is written in the prophets: ‘They shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.”

God's Word Today

God teaches you every time you read the Bible. If you read the Bible, you will know about Jesus. The Bible explains how wonderful Jesus is. If you read the Bible you will want to be friends with Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, read a story in the Bible about Jesus. Draw a picture to go with the story.

God's Word

Acts 9:17-18 and 20

So Ananias went and entered the house; laying his hands on Saul, he said, “Saul, my brother, the Lord has sent me, Jesus who appeared to you on the way by which you came, that you may regain your sight and be filled with the holy Spirit.” Immediately things like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight. He got up and was baptized. He began at once to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

God's Word Today

Saul hated the early Christians because he thought they hated God. He murdered many. Jesus loved Saul because Saul thought he was doing the right thing. Jesus came to Saul and blinded him. Saul asked for forgiveness. Then He forgave Saul and gave him back his sight. What do you think would have happened if Saul hadn’t asked for forgiveness? Because of this miracle, Saul became one of Jesus most active disciples. He traveled all over the world to proclaim the gospel.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the people you know who proclaim the gospel. Say a prayer for each one of them.

God's Word

Acts 9:34-35

Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed.” He got up at once. And all the inhabitants of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

God's Word Today

Aeneas had been paralyzed for eight years. Peter said the words that Jesus had healed Aeneas. When all the people saw this they believed. Often the Lord performs miracles so that people will believe in Him. The whole town believed after this miracle. Have you seen anyone believe in the Lord after a miracle?

To Do Today

Today, think of a miracle you have seen or have heard about. Did it make your belief in Jesus stronger? Thank Jesus for the miracle.

God's Word

Acts 2:38

Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

God's Word Today

Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead as a sacrifice to save us. If you believe in Him and ask Him to forgive your sins, you will be saved and receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will teach you about Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, thank Jesus for dying on the cross for you. Tell the Holy Spirit you love Him.

God's Word

John 10:4

“When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.”

God's Word Today

Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd. Sheep learn to recognize the voice of their shepherd and they follow him. Jesus wants you to recognize His voice and follow Him. How do you think you will recognize His voice?

To Do Today

Today, read Psalm 23.

Tuesday

God's Word

John 10:27-28

“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.”

God's Word Today

A good shepherd always knows which sheep are His. He knows what each one looks like. He knows how they act. He knows who they are. Jesus is your Good Shepherd. He knows what you look like. He knows how you act. He knows who you are. He knows you because you follow Him. He promises to give the sheep He knows eternal life.

To Do Today

Today, put a picture of yourself next to a picture of Jesus. Is Jesus smiling at you?

God's Word

John 12:46

"I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness."

God's Word Today

Jesus says that He came as light. That means He came to shine truth on you. If you believe in Jesus, you will discover the truth about the world and about His love. He does not want you to be in darkness. He wants you to know about Him and His love.

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of Jesus and show the light surrounding Him. Talk to your family about what the light means to you.

Acts 13:13a and 14a

From Paphos, Paul and his companions set sail and arrived at Perga in Pamphylia. They continued on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia.

God's Word Today

Paul was a true disciple of Jesus. Paul loved Jesus very much. He wanted everyone to know about Jesus. Paul traveled for years to many different cities and countries telling the people about Jesus. He was a true missionary.

To Do Today

Today, look in your Bible at the map of Paul’s travels. Find the places listed in today’s verses.

John 14:2

“In my father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.”

God's Word Today

Jesus’ is telling you here that He is preparing a special place for you in Heaven. He says that if he prepares a special place, He will make sure you will be there to enjoy it. He says He will also be there with you. That is one of Jesus’ promises. He loves you very much.

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of the house you want Jesus to prepare for you. You can look in a magazine and cut out a picture of a place you would like and paste it in your book.

God's Word

Acts: 13:47-49

For so the Lord has commanded us, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.’” The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe, and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region.

God's Word Today

Jesus was a Jew who lived in Israel. Jesus taught many of the Israelites about God’s love. The disciples taught more Israelites about Jesus. They loved Jesus. But God wants everyone to know about Jesus. So God sent the disciples into other lands. The Jews called them Gentiles. The disciples taught the Gentiles about Jesus. Many learned to believe in the Lords. Today, missionaries still go to many countries to teach the people about Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, look at a present day map. Ask your parents or Sunday School teacher which countries still need to learn about Jesus. Pray for the people in those countries.

Mother's Day

God's Word

John 14:1-3

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be."

God's Word Today

Jesus is saying that He is preparing a place for you. When it is time, He will come and get you and take you to that place. Isn't that exciting?

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of the kind of place you want Jesus to prepare for you.

God's Word

John 14:26

“The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.”

God's Word Today

How did you do yesterday with your project of being loving, kind, patient, gentle, joyful, forgiving, and caring? Did you ask Jesus for help? He sent the Holy Spirit to help you. The Holy Spirit will always be there to help you and to teach you. He lives inside of you.

To Do Today

Today, tell the Holy Spirit that you love Him. Thank Him for His help.

Tuesday

God's Word

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”

God's Word Today

Jesus promises to give us peace. He does not make the promise and then break it like people in the world do. He keeps His promises. Because He keeps His promises, you can trust Him to be there if you are worried or afraid. Think of the last time you were worried or afraid. Did you call on Jesus to help you?

To Do Today

Today, write down something you are worried about or afraid of and ask Jesus to help you with that problem. Tuck the paper in your Bible and trust that Jesus is taking care of it.

God's Word

John 15:4

“Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.”

God's Word Today

What does it mean to “remain in me”? The way you can remain in Jesus is to always be with Him. To do that, you must read His word in the Bible, pray to Him, talk to Him, think about Him. When you do this, you are remaining in Him. Jesus wants the best for you. To be your best, you must remain in Him.

To Do Today

Today, talk to Jesus and tell Him your deepest secrets. Tell Him you love Him.

Thursday

God's Word

John 15:9

“As the Father loves me, so I, Jesus, also love you. Remain in my love.”

God's Word Today

How much do you think God loves His Son, Jesus? Can you even imagine that kind of love? It is true. God loves Jesus. God loves you also.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the ways God loves you. Tell God you love Him also.

Friday
May 19, 2017

God's Word

John 15:17

“This I command you: love one another.”

God's Word Today

Just as God loves you and just as Jesus loves you, Jesus wants you to love others. In what ways can you love other people? You can help someone, you can forgive someone, you can tell someone you love them. You can smile at someone who is lonely, you can help your parents or teachers with chores. There are many ways you can show love.

To Do Today

Today, show God’s love to everyone you meet. How will you do that?

God's Word

John 15:20b-21

“If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.”

God's Word Today

Have you ever had anyone make fun of you because you were a Christian? Have you had anyone make fun of you because you would not follow them and do something bad? Jesus is telling you in this verse, that this will happen. People who do not know Christ cannot understand Him. They cannot understand why you are loving and kind. If you meet people like this, pray for them because they need to know Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the people you can think of who don’t know Jesus. Pray for them to know Him.

Sixth Sunday of Easter

God's Word

John 14:21b

Jesus said,

"And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him."

God's Word Today

Jesus promises that God the Father and Jesus Himself will love you if you love Him. He promises to reveal Himself. This happens in many ways. Sometimes a friend tells you what you need to hear. Sometimes a friend does something nice to you. Sometimes a stranger helps you. These are ways Jesus reveals himself. Can you think of others?

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the ways Jesus reveals Himself to you.

God's Word

Acts 16:15

After she and her household had been baptized, she offered us an invitation, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my home.”

God's Word Today

Paul and the apostles traveled to many countries to preach the gospel and tell the story of Jesus. They were missionaries. Since they were traveling, they had no home. They relied on fellow Christians offering them places to stay. The woman in this story offered Paul a place to stay. Do you know of any missionaries who are traveling to other countries? Have any missionaries come to your town? Has your church asked people to open their homes to these travelers? Talk to your family. There might be ways you can help missionaries.

To Do Today

Today, set aside some money to donate to a missionary cause.

God's Word

Acts 16:25-26

About midnight, while Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God as the prisoners listened, there was suddenly such a severe earthquake that the foundations of the jail shook; all the doors flew open, and the chains of all were pulled loose.

God's Word Today

Paul and Silas had been beaten and thrown in prison. They did not give up. They did not cry out. They prayed. They prayed hard. God worked a miracle. An earthquake shook open the prison doors. Paul and Silas witnessed to the guards and the guards became Christians. God works miracles today. Whenever you think things are bad, think of Paul. He continued to pray in spite of the circumstances. God will work miracles in your life also.

To Do Today

Today, write down any problem or challenge you have. Ask God to intervene and believe that He will.

Wednesday

God's Word

Acts 17:29

Since therefore we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the divinity is like an image fashioned from gold, silver, or stone by human art and imagination.

God's Word Today

Some of the early Christians thought they needed to make a gold or stone statue of God to worship. Paul reminds them that God is a living spirit. Gold, silver and stone images are not to be worshiped. The church has images of Christ, on the cross, in paintings and statues. But you are not to worship those. They are just to remind us that Jesus is close to us. They remind us that He is near. True worship belongs to the true and living God and to His Son Jesus, the resurrected Christ.

To Do Today

Today, worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus. Picture them in your mind as alive and smiling at you.

Ascension of the Lord

God's Word

Acts 1:8-10

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth."

When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed white garments stood beside them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."

God's Word Today

Today is the day we celebrate Jesus ascension into heaven. After he was resurrected back to life, He came to Earth and taught the disciples for forty days. He sent them out into the world to preach the gospel and then ascended to heaven to be with His father. He had to return to heaven so that He could send the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the day the Holy Spirit comes as Pentecost. How do you think Jesus ascended? Ascend means to rise up. Do you think He was beamed up like the Star Trek shows? Do you think he went up in a chariot of fire like Elijah the prophet did? Some artists show Him rising up on a shaft of bright light.

To Do Today

Today, picture in your mind how you think Jesus might have ascended. Draw a picture of the ascension as you see it.

Friday
May 26, 2017

God's Word

John 16:20

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.”

God's Word Today

Jesus was right. The disciples did weep and mourn when He ascended into Heaven. They missed Him and wanted Him there with them. But Jesus told them their grief would turn to joy. This happened when the Holy Spirit came to them. Then the disciples knew that Jesus would always be with them. They also knew that they would face problems here on Earth, but in Heaven they would be with Jesus forever. They were very happy. Are you happy that Jesus is in your life?

To Do Today

Today, sing a joyful song to the Lord. Sing this song to your family also.

Saturday

God's Word

John 16:27-28

“For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

God's Word Today

Jesus is so pleased because the disciples believe He came from the Father. He tells the disciples that God loves them because they believe Jesus is His Son. Jesus is also pleased that you believe in Him. He tells you that His Father loves you also because you believe He is the Son of God.

To Do Today

Today, write a letter to Jesus telling Him how you feel about His ascension to His Father. Are you glad that He is with His father?

Seventh Sunday of Easter
May 28, 2017

God's Word

John 17:1-5

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said,

"Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him. Now this is the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began."

God's Word Today

Jesus prays to God, His Father when it is time for Him to ascend into heaven. He prays for the disciples that He is leaving behind. Do you think Jesus is excited to see His Father again?

To Do Today

Today, think about Jesus standing next to God. Try to picture it in you mind. Draw a picture of Jesus going back His Father.

Monday
May 29, 2017
Memorial Day

God's Word

Acts 19:2

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” They answered him, “We have never even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

God's Word Today

When you accept and confirm Jesus as your Lord and master, the Holy Spirit will come into your life. Many believers did not know this. Paul laid hands on these people and baptized them in the name of Jesus and the Holy Spirit came upon them. This will happen to you when you accept Jesus and are baptized in His name. The Holy Spirit will come and be with you always. This is because Jesus returned to His Father in Heaven so that the Holy Spirit could come. We celebrate His coming on Pentecost Sunday.

To Do Today

Today, tell the Holy Spirit that you love Him. Thank Him for all the help He gives you and your family.

Tuesday
May 30, 2017

God's Word

John 17:7-9a

“Now they know that everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me. I pray for them.”

God's Word Today

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he prayed for the disciples and for His followers. He prayed for you. He told his father that He had completed the job He was sent on Earth to do. He taught the disciples all that God wanted them to know. Now the words of the disciples found in the Bible are teaching you and your friends and your family.

To Do Today

Today, write down the names of the four gospels that teach you about Jesus.

Wednesday
May 31, 2017

God's Word

Acts 20:35

“In every way I have shown you that by hard work of that sort we must help the weak, and keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who himself said,"

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

God's Word Today

Paul was one of Jesus’ most hard working disciples. He sewed tents to earn money. He did not use the money he earned on himself. He used it to help the poor and the weak. He truly believed Jesus words when he said it was better to give than to receive.

To Do Today

Today, ask your parents to help you find a job or chore where you can earn some money to help the poor.
