God's Word

John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”

God's Word Today

Jesus promises to give us peace. He does not make the promise and then break it like people in the world do. He keeps His promises. Because He keeps His promises, you can trust Him to be there if you are worried or afraid. Think of the last time you were worried or afraid. Did you call on Jesus to help you?

To Do Today

Today, write down something you are worried about or afraid of and ask Jesus to help you with that problem. Tuck the paper in your Bible and trust that Jesus is taking care of it.

God's Word

John 15:4

“Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.”

God's Word Today

What does it mean to “remain in me”? The way you can remain in Jesus is to always be with Him. To do that, you must read His word in the Bible, pray to Him, talk to Him, think about Him. When you do this, you are remaining in Him. Jesus wants the best for you. To be your best, you must remain in Him.

To Do Today

Today, talk to Jesus and tell Him your deepest secrets. Tell Him you love Him.

God's Word

John 15:9

“As the Father loves me, so I, Jesus, also love you. Remain in my love.”

God's Word Today

How much do you think God loves His Son, Jesus? Can you even imagine that kind of love? It is true. God loves Jesus. God loves you also.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the ways God loves you. Tell God you love Him also.

God's Word

John 15:17

“This I command you: love one another.”

God's Word Today

Just as God loves you and just as Jesus loves you, Jesus wants you to love others. In what ways can you love other people? You can help someone, you can forgive someone, you can tell someone you love them. You can smile at someone who is lonely, you can help your parents or teachers with chores. There are many ways you can show love.

To Do Today

Today, show God’s love to everyone you meet. How will you do that?

God's Word

John 15:20b-21

“If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.”

God's Word Today

Have you ever had anyone make fun of you because you were a Christian? Have you had anyone make fun of you because you would not follow them and do something bad? Jesus is telling you in this verse, that this will happen. People who do not know Christ cannot understand Him. They cannot understand why you are loving and kind. If you meet people like this, pray for them because they need to know Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the people you can think of who don’t know Jesus. Pray for them to know Him.

God's Word

John 15:12-13

“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

God's Word Today

Do you have a best friend? Do you love your friend? What kinds of things do you do for your friend? Have you told your friend about Jesus?

To Do Today

Today, talk to your best friend about Jesus.

God's Word

Acts 16:15

After she and her household had been baptized, she offered us an invitation, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my home.”

God's Word Today

Paul and the apostles traveled to many countries to preach the gospel and tell the story of Jesus. They were missionaries. Since they were traveling, they had no home. They relied on fellow Christians offering them places to stay. The woman in this story offered Paul a place to stay. Do you know of any missionaries who are traveling to other countries? Have any missionaries come to your town? Has your church asked people to open their homes to these travelers? Talk to your family. There might be ways you can help missionaries.

To Do Today

Today, set aside some money to donate to a missionary cause.

God's Word

Acts 16:25-26

About midnight, while Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God as the prisoners listened, there was suddenly such a severe earthquake that the foundations of the jail shook; all the doors flew open, and the chains of all were pulled loose.

God's Word Today

Paul and Silas had been beaten and thrown in prison. They did not give up. They did not cry out. They prayed. They prayed hard. God worked a miracle. An earthquake shook open the prison doors. Paul and Silas witnessed to the guards and the guards became Christians. God works miracles today. Whenever you think things are bad, think of Paul. He continued to pray in spite of the circumstances. God will work miracles in your life also.

To Do Today

Today, write down any problem or challenge you have. Ask God to intervene and believe that He will.

God's Word

Acts 17:29

Since therefore we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the divinity is like an image fashioned from gold, silver, or stone by human art and imagination.

God's Word Today

Some of the early Christians thought they needed to make a gold or stone statue of God to worship. Paul reminds them that God is a living spirit. Gold, silver and stone images are not to be worshiped. The church has images of Christ, on the cross, in paintings and statues. But you are not to worship those. They are just to remind us that Jesus is close to us. They remind us that He is near. True worship belongs to the true and living God and to His Son Jesus, the resurrected Christ.

To Do Today

Today, worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus. Picture them in your mind as alive and smiling at you.

Ascension of the Lord

God's Word

Acts 1:8-10

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth."

When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed white garments stood beside them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."

God's Word Today

Today is the day we celebrate Jesus ascension into heaven. After he was resurrected back to life, He came to Earth and taught the disciples for forty days. He sent them out into the world to preach the gospel and then ascended to heaven to be with His father. He had to return to heaven so that He could send the Holy Spirit. We celebrate the day the Holy Spirit comes as Pentecost. How do you think Jesus ascended? Ascend means to rise up. Do you think He was beamed up like the Star Trek shows? Do you think he went up in a chariot of fire like Elijah the prophet did? Some artists show Him rising up on a shaft of bright light.

To Do Today

Today, picture in your mind how you think Jesus might have ascended. Draw a picture of the ascension as you see it.

God's Word

John 16:20

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.”

God's Word Today

Jesus was right. The disciples did weep and mourn when He ascended into Heaven. They missed Him and wanted Him there with them. But Jesus told them their grief would turn to joy. This happened when the Holy Spirit came to them. Then the disciples knew that Jesus would always be with them. They also knew that they would face problems here on Earth, but in Heaven they would be with Jesus forever. They were very happy. Are you happy that Jesus is in your life?

To Do Today

Today, sing a joyful song to the Lord. Sing this song to your family also.

God's Word

John 16:27-28

“For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

God's Word Today

Jesus is so pleased because the disciples believe He came from the Father. He tells the disciples that God loves them because they believe Jesus is His Son. Jesus is also pleased that you believe in Him. He tells you that His Father loves you also because you believe He is the Son of God.

To Do Today

Today, write a letter to Jesus telling Him how you feel about His ascension to His Father. Are you glad that He is with His father?

God's Word

1 John 4:11-12

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another. No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us.

God's Word Today

God wants you to love others. He wants you to love others just like He does. Even if you have never seen God, He says he wants you to love Him and to love others just like He does. Can you do that?

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the people you love. Do you think God loves them also?

God's Word

Acts 19:2

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?” They answered him, “We have never even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

God's Word Today

When you accept and confirm Jesus as your Lord and master, the Holy Spirit will come into your life. Many believers did not know this. Paul laid hands on these people and baptized them in the name of Jesus and the Holy Spirit came upon them. This will happen to you when you accept Jesus and are baptized in His name. The Holy Spirit will come and be with you always. This is because Jesus returned to His Father in Heaven so that the Holy Spirit could come. We celebrate His coming on Pentecost Sunday.

To Do Today

Today, tell the Holy Spirit that you love Him. Thank Him for all the help He gives you and your family.

God's Word

John 17:7-9a

“Now they know that everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me. I pray for them.”

God's Word Today

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he prayed for the disciples and for His followers. He prayed for you. He told his father that He had completed the job He was sent on Earth to do. He taught the disciples all that God wanted them to know. Now the words of the disciples found in the Bible are teaching you and your friends and your family.

To Do Today

Today, write down the names of the four gospels that teach you about Jesus.

God's Word

Acts 20:35

“In every way I have shown you that by hard work of that sort we must help the weak, and keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who himself said,"

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

God's Word Today

Paul was one of Jesus’ most hard working disciples. He sewed tents to earn money. He did not use the money he earned on himself. He used it to help the poor and the weak. He truly believed Jesus words when he said it was better to give than to receive.

To Do Today

Today, ask your parents to help you find a job or chore where you can earn some money to help the poor.

God's Word

John 17:25-26

“Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

God's Word Today

Jesus is praying for all people who believe in Him. Do you believe in Jesus? If so, this prayer is for you also. He is telling God, His Father, that God’s love which is in Him is also in you. You are a child of God. You are filled with God’s love. That is a wonderful blessing. The Holy Spirit, who came down from Heaven on Pentecost Sunday will be the one who helps you know about God’s love.

To Do Today

Today, write down these words. God loves me. Jesus loves me. The Holy Spirit loves me. Say them aloud several times today. Does saying these words make you smile?

God's Word

Psalm 103:20

Bless the Lord, all you angels, mighty in strength and attentive, obedient to every command.

God's Word Today

Jesus asked the disciples to teach the people about God’s love. Paul asked the people to work to help the weak and poor. God also has angels working to help God’s chosen people. Because you love Jesus, you are one of God’s chosen people. You are a child of God. He has assigned angels to help you. Sometimes we call them Guardian Angels.

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of what you think your guardian angel looks like. Tell your angel thank you. Pray for your angel and thank God

God's Word

Acts 28:30b-31

Paul received all who came to him, and with complete assurance and without hindrance he proclaimed the Kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

God's Word Today

Have you seen from this week’s lessons how much God wants everyone to know about His Son, Jesus? Paul spent his whole life teaching the gospel. He traveled all over the world to tell people about Jesus. Jesus wants you to share your understanding of God to everyone you see. Think of all the ways you can personally tell or show people information about Jesus. Maybe you can share a video or music CD. Maybe you can offer a book that tells about Jesus.

To Do Today

Today, tell someone about Jesus.

Pentecost Sunday
May 20, 2018

God's Word

Acts 2:1-4b

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came t rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.

God's Word Today

Pentecost which means fifty, occurred fifty days after Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus had returned to heaven and He promised He would send the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost Sunday, the people were worshipping God and the Holy Spirit came down on all of them. Because it was for so many people, the Spirit came with noise and bright light. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, it probably won’t be with noise and bright lights. The Holy Spirit can and usually does come quietly with a sense of peace. That is why many churches use the dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t matter if you see or hear anything, all you have to do is KNOW that He is with you.

To Do Today

Today, take a photo of yourself and put a picture of a dove on your shoulder. Know that the Holy Spirit is with you

Mark 9:23-24

Jesus said to the man,

"Everything is possible to one who has faith."

The man cried out, "I do believe, help my unbelief!"

God's Word Today

Jesus is telling the man that if you believe, everything is possible. He wants you to think positive and believe in Him. He wants you to believe in truth. With that kind of faith, you can do many great things.

To Do Today

Today, ask your parents how their faith has helped them accomplish things. Think of something you want to do. Do you believe you can do it? Ask your parents to help you build your faith.

Mark 9:36-37

Taking a child, he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them,

"Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me."

God's Word Today

Most people love children. Jesus is telling His disciples to love everyone like you would love a child. Why do you think most people love children compared to loving adults?

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family about why it is easier to love a child than an adult. What can you do to help you love everyone?

God's Word

Mark 9:39-40

Jesus said,

"There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us."

God's Word Today

The disciples were upset because someone different from them was performing miracles. Jesus said it didn't matter who performed miracles as long as it was in His name. If they claiming to be for Jesus, then they can't be against Him. Have you ever seen people different from you talking about Jesus? Are they from different churches? Do you think Jesus loves them as much as He loves you? This verse says He does.

To Do Today

Today, think of people you know who are Christians that do not belong to your church. Talk to your family about them.

God's Word

Mark 9:41

Jesus said to his disciples,

"Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward."

God's Word Today

If you claim you are a Christian and someone helps you, Jesus says that person will be rewarded. If you see someone who needs water or help and you help them, will you be rewarded?

To Do Today

Today, help someone today. Tell them Jesus loves them.

God's Word

Mark 10:1

Jesus came into the district of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds gathered around him and, as was his custom, he again taugt them.

God's Word Today

Jesus is again traveling through Judea in Israel. He travels by foot. This means He walks wherever He is going. How far does He walk?

To Do Today

Today, look on a map in your Bible or on the Internet and see how far Jesus walks.

Mark 10:13-16

People were bringing children to Jesus that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them,

"Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it."

Then he embraced the children and blessed them, placing his hands on them.

God's Word Today

Jesus is telling the disciples again that He loves the children. Do you remember reading about that last week? Jesus wants you to love everyone as much as you would love a small child.

To Do Today

Today, tell someone other than your family that you love them.

Romans 8:14

Brothers and sisters: For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Do you follow God's commandments? Do you believe in God and love Him? Do you love His Son, Jesus? Do you know that you have the Holy Spirit in you? If you answered yes, then you are called a child of God.

To Do Today

Today, list all of God's commandments you followed on this day. Tell God you love Him.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of the commandments you must follow.

God's Word Today

Jesus assures Peter that he will be rewarded for following Him. What rewards will you receive if you follow Jesus?

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family about the rewards in heaven. Draw a picture of the rewards you think are there.

Mark 10:32

The disciples were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him.

God's Word Today

Jesus wanted His disciples to know what was going to happen to Him in Jerusalem. Why do you think they were afraid? Would you be afraid?

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of Jesus talking to His disciples.

God's Word

Mark 10:50-52

The blind man threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him,

"What do you want me to do for you?"

The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him,

"Go your way; your faith has saved you."

Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

God's Word Today

The blind man was so sure Jesus could heal him that he insisted on seeing Jesus. Sure enough, Jesus did heal him. Jesus told him his faith had saved him. Do you believe with all your heart that Jesus can answer your prayers?

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the things you can believe Jesus will do for you.
