God's Word

Luke 9:48a

“Whoever receives this child in my name receives me and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

God's Word Today

Jesus says if a child loves Jesus, he loves the Father. As long as he or she receives Jesus in his or her heart, the child will be your brother or sister in Christ.

To Do Today

God's Word

Luke 9:51

When the days for Jesus to be be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem.

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family and discuss ways they have suffered or sacrificed because they love you. Have you sacrificed because you love them? Discuss this also. This will make your faith grow strong.

God's Word

Luke 9:57

As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding on their journey, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

God's Word Today

Over the centuries, many people have chosen to follow Jesus. When Jesus was alive, disciples could go where He went. After Jesus died, how did the disciples follow Him? They followed Him by reading the Bible, learning His ways and living a godly life. Can you follow Jesus?

To Do Today

Today, tell Jesus you are willing to follow Him. List all the ways you can do so.

God's Word

Luke 10:1-2

Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them,

"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest."

God's Word Today

Jesus knows that there are many people who long to hear the good news about Him. But there are few people who will sacrifice and leave their families to tell others about Jesus. Jesus asks you to pray for more people to go out and tell others about Him. Do you think you can be one of those people?

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family and plan ways you can tell others about Jesus while you are still at home.

God's Word

Luke 10:16b

“Whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

God's Word Today

Once you hear about Jesus and know who He is, you know about God also. If you accept Jesus, you accept God. If you reject Jesus, you reject God. To reject Jesus means to turn away from His teachings and His love. Have you accepted Jesus into your life?

To Do Today

Today, tell Jesus you accept Him into your life.

God's Word

Luke 10:36-37

“Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robber’s victim?”

God's Word Today

In this story, Jesus told about a man who was beaten and left to die. A priest came by and another man, important in his community came by, but neither helped him because he was naked and bloody. But a Samaritan, who was an enemy at that time, came by and helped the man. Jesus asked who the good neighbor was. Jesus wants you to care for everyone, whether they are your friends or people you many not like.

To Do Today

Today, say prayers for the people who are your enemies.

God's Word

Luke 10:39 and 42

She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Jesus said,

“Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

God's Word Today

Mary loved the Lord. She wanted to hear everything Jesus had to say. She sat at His feet and listened. Jesus was very happy that she did so and told her she had made a good choice. Jesus wants you to listen to Him also. He wants you to read the Bible and hear His words. That will make Him very happy.

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. He taught them the Lord’s Prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is a guideline for all prayer. First praise God, then ask Him for your needs, then thank Him.

To Do Today

Today, say the Lord’s Prayer.

God's Word

Luke 11:21

Jesus said,

"When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe."

God's Word Today

Jesus wants you to guard your palace, your home, your mind. If you let bad things in, bad things happen. If you keep your house clean, there is peace. If you keep your thoughts on good things, then you are at peace. That is why Jesus tells you to set up guards.

To Do Today

Today, draw a picture of your house. Be sure all the good and positive things are there. Do not put in any of the bad things.

Many things in life are impossible for you to do. You may see a problem and want to help, but it is impossible for you to do so. But you can pray because nothing is too difficult for God.

To Do Today

Today, think of something you want to do to make the world a better place. Ask God to take care of it for you.

God's Word

Luke 11:30

"Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation."

God's Word Today

Do you remember the story of Jonah and the whale? Jonah was sent to warn the Ninevites that they were sinning. They repented and turned from their wicked ways. Jesus wants his people to also turn from any wicked ways and to repent and turn to God. He died on the cross so you can be forgiven. The cross He died on is the sign. The cross reminds you to repent and ask forgiveness for your sins.

To Do Today

Today, ask God to forgive you for any things you have done this week that weren't godly.

God's Word

Luke 11:46

"Woe to you scholars of the law! You impose on people burdens hard to carry, but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them."

God's Word Today

Jesus is upset with people who make so many rules and then do not help others to carry out the rules. Do you have rules at home? At school? In Sunday school? Do you help your family and friends follow the rules? This would make Jesus very happy.

To Do Today

Today, help a family member clean their room or do a chore.

God's Word

Luke 11:52

"Woe to you scholars of the law! You have taken away the keys of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter."

God's Word Today

Jesus is upset with the teachers of His time. They made so many rules and laws that the people couldn't obey them. They did not help the people. They would not let them enter the house of God to hear how God would help them. That is why He is so upset. Can you learn about God? Where do you go to learn about God? Can you or your family go any time? This makes Jesus happy today.

To Do Today

Today, list all the places you can learn about God.

Luke 12:7

“Even the hairs on your head have been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.”

“For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

God's Word Today

Jesus’ disciples thought the Messiah should be treated like a king. They thought people should treat Jesus with respect. However, Jesus told them He would not be treated like a king. He came to be our servant. He treats us like kings and even died for us.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of all the things you would like to do for Jesus.

God's Word

Luke 12:15

Jesus said to the crowd,

“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

God's Word Today

Jesus does not want you to be greedy. This means He doesn’t want you to have more than you need. What we have here on earth is not what is important. If you have more than you need, then He wants you to share with others. This will give you treasures in heaven.

To Do Today

Today, find something you have that you do not need and give it to someone who does need it.

Tuesday
October 23, 2018

Jesus is telling His disciples that they must be ready at any time for the master to come. What He means is that you need to be ready at all times for the coming of the Master or Jesus. You don’t know when He will come, so be ready at all times as if He were coming today.

To Do Today

Today, look at your room. What do you need to do to make it ready for a visit from Jesus?

God's Word

Luke 12:48b

“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much.”

God's Word Today

When your parents or your teachers give you a big responsibility, you are expected to take that responsibility seriously. Jesus says one who has been asked to take care of a big job, will be required to do so. He expects the job to be done and He is pleased when the job is done well..

To Do Today

Today, finish a job you have been asked to do and do it well.

Thursday

God's Word

Luke 12:49

“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!”

God's Word Today

Jesus does not mean to set the world on fire like you think of a fire. He is talking about the Holy Spirit. After He was resurrected and brought back to life, He returned to His Father in Heaven so that the Holy Spirit could come to be with you. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is often called the Baptism of Fire.

To Do Today

Today, tell the Holy Spirit you love Him and thank Him for always being there for you.

Friday
October 26, 2018

God's Word

Luke 12:57

“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?”

God's Word Today

Jesus says you can make decisions and choices that are right. You have the help of the Holy Spirit. You do not need to always wait for someone to tell you what is right. You can judge for yourself.

To Do Today

Today, make a list of choices you have and circle the ones that you judge to be right.

Saturday

God's Word

Luke 13:5

“But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!”

God's Word Today

Jesus was talking about people who were killed. They did not repent or change their bad ways so they perished. Jesus wants you to repent or change any bad habits you have. He doesn’t want you to perish.

To Do Today

Today, write down any bad habits you have and make a decision to change that habit.

Sunday

God's Word

Psalm 126:3

To Do Today

Today, sing a song of praise to God. Sing a song you know or make up one.

God's Word

Luke 13:10-13

Jesus was teaching in the synagogue on the sabbath. And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect. When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said,

"Woman, you are set free of your infirmity."

He laid his hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God.

God's Word Today

Jesus wants everyone to be healthy and strong. He saw the woman and felt sorry for her. He healed her. What did the woman do? Did she do what Jesus told her to do? Did she believe she was healed? Yes, she stood up straight. What else did she do? She gave God the glory.

To Do Today

Today, think of something God has done for you. Thank Him.

God's Word

Luke 13:18-19

Jesus said,

"What is the Kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches."

God's Word Today

When Jesus compares The Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, He is telling you that it starts out very tiny with the smallest amount of faith and then grows and grows the stronger you believe.

To Do Today

Today, plant a seed and watch it grow. Think about your faith as it grows. Your faith grows like the seed.

God's Word

Luke 13:23-24

Someone asked Jesus, "Lord will only a few people be saved?" He answered them,

"Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough."

God's Word Today

Jesus says it will be hard to enter heaven. This is because many people find it easier to seek toys, games, playtime, television, the computer, music videos instead of seeking Jesus. It is difficult to always be thinking of Jesus. But if you don't, it will be difficult for you to enter heaven.

To Do Today

Today, talk to your family about the difference between worldly things and godly things. Discuss which ones Jesus prefers and why.
